Lehi has become Utah's tech capital, and the kitchen expectations of buyers in Traverse Mountain, Holbrook Farms, Thanksgiving Point, and the new Silicon Slopes neighborhoods have moved well beyond the builder-grade beige cabinets of 2008. Here are 14 design moves we use on most Lehi kitchen remodels today.
1. Make the island the centerpiece, not the perimeter
In modern Lehi kitchens, the island carries the design. We routinely build 9–12 ft islands with a waterfall quartz edge, a contrasting cabinet color, and pendants sized to actually anchor the space. Skip the 6-ft builder island.
2. Two-tone cabinets
The most consistent winning combination in Lehi right now: light upper cabinets (warm white, light oak) with a saturated lower color (deep forest, navy, mushroom, or charcoal). It looks intentional, photographs beautifully, and shows depth.
3. Induction cooktop + dedicated wall oven
Tech-savvy Lehi buyers expect induction. It's faster, cleaner, safer with kids, and has become the standard in $700K+ remodels. Pair it with a dedicated wall oven (or two) and you've leapfrogged 90% of the neighborhood.
4. Hidden walk-in pantry
A pocket-door pantry off the main kitchen — with its own counter, outlets, and storage — has become the most-requested upgrade in our Silicon Slopes projects. Hides the small appliances, the snacks, and the chaos.
5. Coffee bar / beverage zone
A dedicated coffee + drinks area with under-counter fridge, hot water tap, and storage for mugs is now standard in higher-end Lehi kitchens. It also keeps morning traffic out of the main work zone.
6. Real range hood, not microwave-over-stove
Replacing the over-the-range microwave with a true vented hood (chimney-style or custom-paneled) is the single biggest design upgrade in most Lehi kitchen remodels. Move the microwave into a drawer or pantry.
7. Quartz countertops with subtle veining
Heavy marble veining is fading. Calacatta-style quartz with subtle veining is the safe, current choice for Lehi resale.
8. Counter-depth panel-ready fridge
A built-in panel-ready refrigerator that disappears into the cabinet line is the highest-impact luxury upgrade you can make. It transforms the kitchen from "house" to "home magazine."
9. Slab backsplash to the ceiling behind the range
Continuing the countertop material up the wall behind the range — full slab, no grout lines — is the move that separates designer kitchens from contractor kitchens.
10. Drawers, drawers, drawers
For lower cabinets: drawer banks beat doors every time. Big drawers for pots, deep drawers for mixing bowls, narrow drawers for spices.
11. Pop-up outlets in the island
Skip the ugly outlet boxes on the island side. Pop-up outlets keep the surface clean.
12. Layered lighting
Three layers, always: recessed cans for general light, pendants for the island, under-cabinet LED for task. Add toe-kick LED for "wow" at night.
13. Pet zone and built-in command center
A built-in dog-bowl drawer near the pantry and a command-center desk with charging station turns the kitchen into the family hub.
14. Plan your island for kids' homework AND adult dinner parties
Counter-height (36") island = kids do homework while you cook. Bar-height (42") = better for entertaining. Counter-height wins for most Lehi families with school-age kids.
